During Ottoman empire many wooden houses were built and still today there are many - most of them in Istanbul old towns and Bosphorous and Princess Islands. Certain houses were divided into isolated male and female, though everyone was all together. They (wooden houses) make Istanbul into a fairytale fishing village, where children still talk under the ancient rickety eaves on the cobblestones below, while the old wood decays in the sunshine, and the gulls cry around the domes of the mosques in the distance.
