EYELID SURGERY (BLEPHAROPLASTRY) -
Location:
ISTANBUL / TURKEY
Am
I a Good Candidate for Eye Lid Surgery?
As is the
case with all cosmetic surgery it is essential that one
be in good health and have realistic expectations. Blepharoplasty
removes fatty tissue on the upper and lower eyelid, giving
your a younger rejuvenated appearance.
As the plastic
surgery specialist plans the surgery, he may also recommend
additional skin rejuvenating procedures to raise the eyebrows,
stretch the skin on your forehead and remove the wrinkles
around your eyes.
Making
an Informed Decision
Whether the
surgical procedure is functional or cosmetic, your choice
of a plastic surgeon is very important. The patient must
also be careful to heed every warning the plastic surgeon
gives both before and after the operation.
In the examination
prior to the operation, you will be asked questions about
your vision, dry eyes, use of contact lens and your desires.
Your plastic surgeon will describe what can be expected
from the blepharoplasty that will be performed on you and
ask about your medical history. Your age, skin type, ethnic
background and field of vision will be significant factors.
More importantly, this first examination will be an honest
exchange of information between you and your plastic surgeon,
which is critical to a successful experience.
Surgery
The plastic
surgeon will first determine the natural lines and creases
on the upper eyelid to hide traces of the procedure. After
the incision has been made, fatty deposits, excess muscles
and sagging skin will be removed. In order to minimize scarring,
the incision will be neatly closed with miniscule stitches.
An incision
will be made at the base of the eyelashes on the lower eyelid
to hide the incisions. Fat deposits and excess muscle and
skin will be removed and then neatly closed with miniscule
stitches. If the problem is only fat deposits in the eye,
the incision may be made on the inside of the lower eyelid.
The operation takes one or two hours under normal circumstances.

Post-Surgery
When the
operation is finished, eye salve and cold compresses will
be applied to the sewn up incision. Drops that prevent dry
eyes may be used. A certain amount of swelling and bruising
will occur after the surgery. Keeping your head raised high
and using cold compresses will speed healing and make you
more comfortable.
You may experience
watery eyes and a stinging sensation for one week. You may
clean the area around your eyes and use the drops and eye
salve that is recommended. Your plastic surgeon will inform
you concerning the physical activities and environmental
conditions that are permissible. The stitches will be removed
within 4-5 days.
Surgical cosmetic
procedures on the face will help you regain your self-confidence
and correct signs of premature aging.
Individuals
who have had eyelid surgery before and it turned out to
be unsuccessful should not despair. Corrective procedures
can always be performed to achieve a better result.
